Inquiry of MAC-Address (HostID)The MAC-address of a computer is used as HostID. The Hostname is the name of a computer inside a network. All programs of tucan are protected with an USB-Dongle or the primary MAC-address of a computer as HostID, exceptional the gratis viewer tucan view. For every Dongle or every MAC-address an individual license file is required. You can not execute the programs without that license file. The MAC-address is the unique identifier of a network interface card. That consists of 12 characters in hexadecimal format (digits 0..9, characters A..F). Many Systems displays that often separated by the character "-". But only the 12 characters in lower case are relevant and used by tucan. Example readout: 00-E0-29-44-3D-6D
Example tucan : 00e029443d6d
If a computer contains more than one networking interfaces cards, multiple MAC-addresses will be displayed. All programs of tucan need the primary MAC-address as HostID. WindowsWithin a DOS box you can inquire the MAC-address by typing in: ipconfig /all
LinuxWithin a terminal window you can inquire the MAC-address by typing in: ifconfig -a
The primary MAC-address normally is marked by "eth0". Windows and LinuxIf you would have installed tucan design SL protected by MAC-address or tucan view already, you could inquire the MAC-address directly from tucan. If the program could not find any valid license file, a dialog is displayed. Within this dialog the MAC-address is shown as HostID.
The same dialog could be called explicitly by pressing "Info" in the menu "?" within a running program. You can select the given HostID using the mouse pointer. Typing in <Ctrl>-C copies the string into the clipboard. Use the clipboard by copying the data into the input fields of the license request form. If that value 000000000000 is displayed as HostID, no MAC-address was found. If the dialog shows "DongleID" instead of "HostID" the installation package for dongle protection is installed, that cannot display any MAC-address. MAC-address not displayedIf no MAC-address could be reported, then no evaluable networking interface card is available. In this case you should install a LoopBack-adapter, which delivers an evaluable MAC-address, too. You can find references about the installation of a LoopBack-adapter within the system documentation of the operating system. Please do not make such an installation, if you do not have the essential knowledge of that. Errors in the installation endanger the operating ability and stability of your system!
