Trouble-Shooting Licensing of tucan series

All programs of tucan series are protected technically by licenses exceptional the gratis viewer tucan view, protected by dongle or protected by MAC-address. So you need a valid license file and the appropriate installation package.

The following information refer to the programs:

  • tucan design SL (license file for MAC-address)
  • tucan design (license file for dongle)
  • tucan view+ (license file for dongle)

If tucan cannot find any valid license file then tucan shows the info dialog only. If that will be closed tucan will be closed, too. But the info dialog shows important info for error diagnostics.

Operating system

Access Rights

All file and subdirectories within the installation directory of tucan must not be set to write protection. Otherwise tucan messages that no valid license was found.

License file

A license file contains all valid licenses. The license file must exist in the subdirectory "licensing" within the installation directory. The filenames "licensefile.xml" or "licensefile_computername.xml" are permissible. Please check the names and adjust if necessary. Please pay attention to the correct diction and to upper/lower case.

You may not change the content anyway if you edit the license file with an editor or browser. The file could become defect potentially. Please open the license file with the option read-only.

Among other things the license file contains the following statements:

<host id="00e029443d6d" >
  <var name="Minos" />
  <var version="Educational Version" />
  <var platform="Windows" />
  <var revision="7.1" />
  <var starting-date="2005-01-06" />
  <var expiry-date="2006-01-01" />

HostID gives the MAC-address or the dongle number. The license file is valid for these IDs only.

The operating system given by platform must be correct. It is impossible to use the same license file for Windows and Linux. If you would deploy both operating systems in parallel you would need two different license files.

Please check if the license version given by revision is valid for the revision displayed by the info dialog of the used program.

If the expiry-date does not give the value "permanent" the license is time-bombed. Please check the validity of the license.

Where appropriate please request a renewal respectively a new time-bombed license file.
